Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repeller

Written by: Paul Thomas, 04 Nov 2008

Over 5000 snake bites on humans occur every year in Australia and many more dogs are affected or killed by snake bites each year. Last year we lost one of our own dogs to a snake bite and two other people in our street have also lost dogs to snake bites in 2007. This year we have installed 4 Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repellers so far we have not seen any snakes on our property.

Unfortunately we were unable to save our dog because we found her too late but if you do find that you dog has been bitten by a snake and you take it to the Vet the bill can amount to hundreds and hundreds of dollars even if the vet can save the dog. Likewise what price do you put on your children or yourself who can be utterly traumatised by snake bites? There is a solution that helps to deter snakes from entering your property and that is the Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repeller

How does the Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repeller it work?

This unique repeller has been developed to scare away all kinds of snakes; it emits a pulsing vibration, which the snake picks up through sensors throughout its body. The snake perceives the pulsations as a danger zone causing them to evacuate the area; most snakes will retreat almost immediately when they sense the pulsations.

Snakes have a unique set of organs that detect vibrations and pulses. hey Snakes actually sense the vibration right throughout their bodies via their spine, this is termed somatic hearing, where the vibration is picked up and transferred  along the spinal cords to the ear bone.

Much research has gone into developing the correct type of pulse/vibration to trigger the retreat instinct in snakes. The Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repeller  has been designed and produced to give years of trouble free service with no running costs. Solar powered for economy and low maintenance, built of sturdy materials to resist the elements. It has an integrated high quality solar panel and power cell that provides reliability to work continuously throughout the day and night. It works all year round even throughout prolonged periods of dull overcast weather. Each Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repeller  unit will protect approx 650sq m. It is also environmentally safe and will not affect any other animals, birds or livestock.

The effectiveness of the repeller is greatly increased when two or more units are used as the snake cannot identify where the threat may be so it retreats much more quickly and generally will go much further away. One unit can and will protect its area well, a circle with a radius of 15 metres, but the manufacturer recommends that at least two units be used.

To protect larger areas it is recommended that multiple units be placed approx 30 metres apart and to get complete coverage between units for maximum protection, the more units deployed the more effective the result. Throughout Spring, Summer and as Autumn approaches in many parts, numerous young snakes are emerging and looking for new territories and older larger snakes will be out trying to establish territories in which to breed, and spend the cooler months.

The Sentinel Solar Electronic Snake Repellers are very good at removing snakes from behind or under obstacles such as rock walls, from under sheds and garages. Small shed foundations, footpaths and driveways will not stop the effectiveness of the unit, and they will also operate very well in rocky ground.

This season has been another record breaking year for numbers of snakes sighted, with the dry weather many more snakes seem to be coming in to areas where they are not normally seen, then with the very heavy rain in some districts have experienced, all indications they are breeding there in record numbers and are likely to many more unfortunate encounters with them before winter sets in. With brown snakes becoming much more of a problem over the past year in most parts of their range whether this is due to the changing climate or drought it is hard to say for certain but there has been a huge increase in the number of bites to pets especially dogs over the past months, and also a lot more people appear to have suffered bites from brown snakes than normal in places where they are not normally common. Victoria in particular is having many more problems with tiger snakes than in recent years.

Stop them now before they get established around your home.

Sentinel Electronic Snake Repeller will help protect your home and loved ones from these potentially deadly creatures.

The manufacturer has tested the unit on the following list of snakes and found it to be effective on the:

Eastern Brown Snake, Red Bellied Black Snake, Eastern Tiger Snake, Black Tiger Snake, Gwardir (Western Brown snake), Rough Scaled Snake, Spotted Black Snake, Dugites, Coastal Taipans, Copperhead Snake, Common Death Adder, Carpet Python, Green Tree Snake, Brown Tree Snake, Yellow Faced Whip Snake, Small eyed Snake, Keelback Snake and Marsh Snake.

The manufacturer stated that The Sentinel Snake Repeller worked very well with all types giving excellent results.

What are our customers saying about the snake repeller?

I recently bought 4 repellers and gave 2 away as gifts.

In relation to the 2 I kept I have not seen a snake in the vicinity of these (nor has my gardener who regularly walks through the area) . Previously there were 2-3 resident blacks in the area.

In relation to the repeller I gave our gardeners they placed it near a dam 20-25m from the house and their resident snake at the dam moved closer to the house. They are planning to contact you to buy additional repellers.

In summary - the repellers I purchased appear to be working well and doing their job.

Hi,

I recently bought 2 snake repellents, due to a neighbour having a snake in their garden /house recently. I have not had a snake in the garden but would prefer to prevent it happening! I found the repellents easy to assemble and I know they are working as I can hear the noise. As to how effective they are I cannot tell unless a snake appears and then I know they don't work!!

However, having researched online quite a bit I am confident that having them is better than not.

Hope this helps.

All good. We have 2 we purchased about a year ago (not from you guys) around the front of our house and prior to putting them in we had a big snake problem, since then nothing.

The two we purchased from you are an additional two for the back of the house.

Hard to say if they actually work or if we have just been lucky with no snakes, but I choose to believe they work J

As yet we have had no visits from our slippery friends, mainly dugites & tiger snakes since we have installed the 2 repellers.

Our 1/2 acre block is in a built up suburban area but not far from a swamp and bush land and occasionally we have had snakes pass through.  I have aviaries and a pond so that encourages them in although we have the yard clean and tidy and not very inviting for them to stay.  The neighbours around us have native type gardens which they would appreciate and would encourage them to take refuge.

At this point of time I could not say for sure if it has deterred them.  We have had a wet summer up until January so February, March they may come around.

If we see any we will be definitely watching their reactions.  I will contact you with our results.

Thank you for your follow up.
